Carolyn G. Vokoun, 83

Carolyn Grace Vokoun, 83, of Traer, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 21, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She was born on October 25, 1929, in Traer, the daughter of Kenneth and Edna (Leethje) Bradley. She attended Buckingham and then Traer public schools, graduating in May of 1946, at the age of 16. Carolyn then attended State Teachers College (UNI) receiving her Elementary Teaching Certificate in 1947. On March 30, 1948, Carolyn was united in marriage to Donald Vokoun at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Carolyn and Don operated the DX Station and later Lone Pine Phillips 66 Station and Caf. In October of 1956, they purchased the Dodge dealership and garage. Carolyn spent fifty years owning and operating the Vokoun Company. She was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church and a past Traer Chamber of Commerce Woman of the year. In 1997, Carolyn and Don purchased a home in Lake of the Ozarks, where she enjoyed spending time with her family. Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Dalona (Corky) Feuerbach of Ackley; a daughter-in-law, Kris Vokoun of Des Moines; four grandchildren, A.J. (Jamie) Feuerbach of Clear Lake, Amy (Brian) Vokoun-Lutter of Johnston, Dustin (Traci) Feuerbach of Overland Park, Kansas and Jesse (Becky Chapin) Vokoun of Overland Park, Kansas; five great grandchildren, Preston “P.J.”, Anna and Payton Feuerbach and Nora and Stella Lutter; a sister, Dixie Martin of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Elmer Bradley of Omaha, Nebraska. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald “Bear” Vokoun; a son, Jim Vokoun; two brothers, Delbert and Leland; and a sister, Bernice. Carolyn will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
