Richard “Rich” L. Albertsen, 85

Richard “Rich” Louis Albertsen was born on June 6, 1929, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Louis and Catherine (Neunaber) Albertsen. Rich grew up around Keystone and attended country school through the sixth grade, parochial school for seventh and eighth grade, and graduated from Keystone High School. He then attended Iowa State University for a year. Rich began farming in 1949. On October 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elaine Kruckenberg in Keystone. Rich served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Rich and Elaine moved to a farm south of Dysart in 1954. Rich farmed with his son, Doug, until 1994 when he retired, although he continued to help. Rich was a member of the Dysart American Legion and served as Commander for one year, was a longtime member of the Dysart Lions Club and served as president for one year, served on the Tama Benton Coop Board, was on the Country Club Board and served as president for two years, was a member of the Dysart Development Corporation, and enjoyed working with Overton Funeral Homes for ten years. Rich died at the age of 85 on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kathy. Rich is survived by his wife, Elaine; two sons, Ron (Susie) Albertsen and Doug (Rita) Albertsen; a daughter, Luann (Mike) Sharp; a brother, Robert (Carla) Albertsen; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
