D. Evelyn Powell, 96

D. Evelyn Powell, 96, of Traer, died Monday, March 2, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center of congestive heart failure. She was born September 22, 1918 in Onaway, Michigan the daughter of Louis and Elizabeth (McNally) Hulla. She married William J. Craig on December 23, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA; he preceded her in death in 1975. She married Robert Powell on July 3, 1976; he preceded her in death in 1996.

Evelyn worked as a Professional Legal Secretary for Mickelson & Roan in Toledo, retiring in 1978. She was a devout 50 year dual member of Bona Dea Chapter #375 in Traer and Toledo Chapter #380 Order of Eastern Star in Tama. She held many offices in each chapter, had many Grand Chapter Committee appointments and was Grand Representative of Nevada for 2 years; past president of the Iowa Association of Legal Secretaries; American Legion Auxiliary, Water Safety Instructor, served on the Traer Library Board, a member of the Traer United Presbyterian Church and an active volunteer in the community.

Survived by: one son, William (Cathy) Craig of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Ruth Smith of Chariton; five grandchildren, Jana (Lee) Cain of Chariton, Craig (Jenny) Smith of Norwalk, Saylar (Tracy) Craig of Singapore, Mia (Scott) Hagarty of Portland, TX, Amy (Matt) Garringer of Des Moines; twelve great-grandchildren, Aaron, Dylan, Caroline, Taylor, Kaitlin, Maci Lynn, Kalia, Harrison, Anya, Cameron, Micah and Lily and a son-in-law, Bruce McEltree of Toledo.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her husbands; one daughter, Suzanne McEltree; one granddaughter, Keely Craig; five brothers and one sister.

Services: will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Traer United Presbyterian Church with burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Public Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Traer United Presbyterian Church and also one hour before the service at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Traer United Presbyterian Church or Traer Public Library.
