Merlin A. “Butch” Raub, 88

Merlin Adam Raub, known as “Butch” to family and friends, passed away at the age of 88, on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015, at Blair House in Burlington, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the Dysart United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. Military rites by the Dysart American Legion and burial will follow at Dysart Cemetery.

He was born on July 30, 1926, in Dysart, Iowa, the son of William and Bessie (Schaefer) Raub.

Butch graduated from Dysart High School while serving on his ship in the US Navy in WWII. After returning from the war, Butch married Marvyle Key, on January 12, 1947. Butch and Marvyle made their home in Dysart, until moving to Sunnybrook assisted living in Burlington, Iowa, in March of 2011.

Butch was a member of the Dysart United Methodist Church, and the Dysart American Legion.

He is survived by his family, that he was so proud of, his loving wife, Marvyle; Son, Ron (Melody Brooks) of New London; daughter, Jan Ranard (Jonathan) of Loveland, Ohio; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Butch is also survived by his sister; brother; a sister in law; and many nieces and nephews.

Butch is preceeded in death by his parents William and Bessie; his brothers; his brother in law; and sister in law.

Butch was a wonderful father and grandfather. He loved gardening, fishing, farming, family dinners, and playing cards. However, his real passion was baseball, which opened many doors of lasting friendships. His quiet and gentle nature, and bear hugs, will be missed by many.
