The Dengler Domain: Handwritten Letters
Lol”. “Brb.” “Smh.” These phrases are commonly sent through email, Facebook, and texting. These quick forms of communication are great, except they do not have a personal touch. Handwritten letters have this touch, and this makes them the best form of communication. Before I go into why, I do not want to be a hypocrite. I do not handwrite many letters, but I hope to change this aspect. Though, my handwriting looks like a first grader did it.
The personality conveyed through handwritten letters causes handwritten letters to be the best. Emotion is conveyed in every word when it is handwritten. The reader feels as the writer feels. The physical part of handwritten letters possesses character with the folds and bent corners. A typed letter projects conformity, and the personality is destroyed. Every handwritten letter has personality and character whether the letter is two sentences or one hundred sentences long.
Being sent a handwritten letter is a beautiful part of society. Nobody sends out the same handwritten letter to multiple people. This is too hard; a personalized handwritten letter to each individual adds a better touch. A handwritten letter takes careful thinking with each stroke of the pen to determine the next elegant word. Handwritten letters take time, a vital part of life, and we put forth are best effort when using this precious time.
While email, Facebook, and texting are faster forms of communication, they are not personal. No one faults another human for sending them a beautiful, handwritten letter. Everyone faults a person for sending duplicate messages. People believe the world is a smaller place with email, Facebook, and texting, but this is untrue. Every day interactions are negated by the presence of sticking by the smartphone. Writing handwritten letter allows people to experience the world through their eyes and not their smartphone.
Sending more handwritten letters as a society may kill a few more trees, but this method will help in the long term. This craft should not be lost, and I pledge to write more handwritten letters. They are meaningful, beautiful, and full of personality. This also describes us, the human race. We need to embrace ourselves and not be caught up in our fast paced society. Taking it slow to handwrite a perfectly crafted letter is wise. Life goes by fast so take some time to write the loved ones a beautiful letter. If you have terrible handwriting skills like me, your loved ones will at least know the thought is what counts. I hope.
