Happy Holidays, from the Desk of Senator Giddens

State Sen. Eric Giddens (D-Cedar Falls)

Here in the Senate, much of December is spent looking ahead and getting ready for the new legislative session that begins next month. We’re excited to announce our 2024 agenda in the coming weeks (stay tuned!) and get to work representing you in the new year.

But December is also a time to slow down and spend time with family and appreciate our blessings. In many ways, 2023 was a challenging year in Iowa politics, and we have much work to do in 2024 to move our state in the right direction. But for now, let’s take a breath and enjoy the fellowship of friends and family.

From my family to yours, happy holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year. I hope to see you soon out in the community or down at the Statehouse.

The family farm: Now in FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) includes many major changes for the 2024-2025 school year. One to take note of – the adjusted value of a family farm or small business will now be used when calculating expected financial contribution from parents. Prior to this year, the net value of a family farm or small business was not included. For more information: https://www.calt.iastate.edu/article/value-family-farm-now-included-fafsa-application
