Sculpture Contest at Tama Co. Fair

The Tama County Fair Board has decided to have a new contest this year. It will be an open sculpture contest. You may create anything you would like with your own materials. Your materials can be metal, wood, vinyl or any combination of any materials. This event is open to anyone; you do not need to be a 4H or FFA member. The project may be created by a group or an individual.

Your project schould be brought to the fairgrounds Tuesday evening, July 15 between 4 and 7 p.m.

All creations are a donation to the Tama County Fair Association and will be auctioned to the highest bidder during Friday night 4H Fun Night. Proceeds will be used for the Tama County Fair Scholarship and activities.

Sculptures will be judged on creativity, use of materials, and craftsmanship. Prizes will be awarded in the amounts of $50, $25 and $15 by the Tama County Fair Association for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, as judged by the 4H visual arts and science and engineering judges. All decisions of the judges are final. Winners will be announced prior to the auction Friday evening, July 18.

Additionally, a People’s Choice award will be presented. Sculptures will be on display at the fair from Wednesday afternoon until Friday evening. Fairgoers may vote for their favorite by placing coins in the bucket next to it – one penny equals one vote. The creation with the most money in its container earns the designation “People’s Choice” and wins all the money in all the containers. It is possible to win the People’s Choice as well as the judge’s choice prize.

The Tama County Livestock and Fair Association are not responsible for injuries acquired in working with these materials and/or this project. Contestants under 18 years of age must have adult supervision.
