News from the Attic
The Dysart Historical Society’s new Machine Shed Museum building project has been completed and machinery items are in the process of being moved into the building. The new building is 24 feet by 36 feet. It is located east of the Agricultural Museum and the two buildings match in the colors of the roofing and building siding. The inside of the new building has a corrugated metal ceiling and wainscoting, along with wood car paneling for the remainder of the sidewalls. It does not have air conditioning, but is well ventilated and insulated with large ceiling fans. The building is open during regular museum hours although the display work is a work in progress.
The Agricultural and Historical Timeline project to be installed in the Agricultural Museum is ready to be sent to the manufacturer this week. The timeline will be located along three walls of the building and is around 80 feet long. It will feature important world, national, state, and local events from the 1803 Louisiana Purchase through 2015. A generous grant from Silos and Smokestacks has made the timeline possible. The timeline committee has been working on the information to be included in the timeline for the past seven months.
An Open House and Ribbon Cutting celebration for the new additions to the Historical Center will be held in September. Be sure to watch the Dysart Reporter and Channel 1 for details. The Historical Center is open on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 until 4:00 through September and at most any other time by appointment. Call 476-7345 or 476-3549 for an appointment.
