Christmas on Main

Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand to greet kids at the annual Christmas on Main celebration in the newly-renovated Dysart Community Building this year. For more photos, check out this week's print issue.

A beautiful day was the background for the annual CHRISTMAS ON MAIN held Saturday, December 5th. The day started with the Dysart Community Foundation serving their delicious pancakes from 8 to 12:30. At 9 o’clock the famous Union High Carolers entertained the large crowd upstairs at the Community Building. Following that, different levels of skill were demonstrated by the JADCO dancers to everyone’s great delight. The Dysart-Geneseo elementary students favored us with several very cute Christmas songs and a lot of enthusiasm. The Wolf Creek Players presented a very different take on the “TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS” to such delight that they were asked and agreed to perform it again.

AND after the performances Mr. and Mrs. Santa came to greet each child and give them candy. I’ll bet Santa might have been achy from lifting all those children to his knee. But the kids were delighted.

Outside there was a hay rack ride courtesy of the Dysart Development Corporation. The DDC was also sponsor of the turkey drawing. Those 10 lucky winners were Norma Owen, Gary Leyen, Mary Fosse Shaw, Julie Dunlap, Ruth Schafbuch, Darlene Monroe, Sam Newton, Maxine McKenna, Don Hach, and Becky Walters.

The Dysart Women’s Club held a silent auction of “Christmas Baskets” and they really outdid themselves! The high bidders were Kathie Manfull, Glen Sailsbury, Marcia Knupp, Reta Callahan, and June Mehlhaus. Each of the five Women’s Club departments provided a basket. The result was the high bidders got some lovely items and the Women’s Club received $505 to give back to the community.

The Tree of Lights had five “top donors.” They were: Doug and Mary Mehlhaus, Don and Kathy Schuchart, Fine Arts Women’s Club, Jeff and Marcia Knupp, and Rodney & Mary Jo Kavalier. A total of $1,827 was given to the Tree of Lights. That money will go to the Women’s Club Scholarship and the July 4th festivities. A big thank you to all that made this possible.

While all the above was going on, a member from each Women’s Club department was serving coffee, hot cider, punch and cookies with great ease from the kitchenette in the beautiful, newly refurbished, Community Building.
