News from the Attic

On Sunday, July 24th, the Dysart Historical Society hosted a program featuring barbed wire collector and Marshalltown resident, Glenn Dau Schmidt, and his extensive collection of different barbed wire designs His very interesting “hands-on” program was attended by visitors from Dysart, Traer, and from Texas. Another interesting program is planned for August. Please watch the Dysart Reporter for information.

A number of new items have been added to the Historical Center collections. Some of them include a portable water pump for pumping water from streams for a steam engine to power a threshing machine, Robert Degner’s sizeable presidential campaign button collection, and an original Peace Church communion service , as well as a number of small antique household items. The displays in the new Machine Shed Museum continue to be developed. The door to the very old Dysart jail has been installed outdoors east of the Historical Museum, and you or your children and grandchildren might like to have your photo taken as you stand “jailed” behind it. The roses in the Agnes Luze Memorial Rose Garden are beautiful again this year, and it is a great place to “stop and smell the roses.” Your Historical Center is open each Sunday through September and is almost always available for visits or tours by calling a board member.
