North Tama places second in Dunkerton Relays

The North Tama boys placed second in the Dunkerton Relays last Tuesday, April 7, in Denver. The co-ed meet always proves to be a long cold night for the teams there to compete.

Getting the Redhawks boys their only first place overall finish for the evening was Brendon Boerm in the 200m dash with a time of 24.24 beating the closest competitor, Wright from Hudson, by .20 seconds. Boerm also got a second place finish in the Long Jump with a jump of 19′ 2″ beating last weeks jump of 19′ 1.75″. Also placing in the Long Jump this week was Senior Wyatt Hanus with a jump of 18′ 7.25″ for a forth place finish.

The Redhawks saw several second place finishes in the meet. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of Jeremy Wrage, James Weida, Jacob Espenscheid and Dylan Youel came in at a time of 1:06.87. The relay team of Justin Jacobs, Hanus, Boerm and Aaron Fink had a time of 1:43.16 in the 4×200. The relay team for the 4×100 of Youel, Hanus Boerm and Fink with a time of 47.14 and Youel in the 110 Hurdles in a time of 15:88 all had second place finishes for the team.

The 1600m relay team of Espenscheid, Tyler Jackson, Jordan Mask and David Robinson had a sixth place finish in a time of 4:26.70 and the 4×400 team of Hanus, Jacobs, Jackson and Taylor Kvidera also had a sixth place finish in a time of 4:19.66. The 4×800 team of Alex Kubik, Kvidera, Mask and Sean Dengler had a third place finish in a time of 9:50.88.

In the individual events Robinson place forth in the 3200m run amongst stiff competition in a time of 11:06.16. Fink place forth in the 100m dash in a time of 11:87. Weida third place in the 1600m run in a time of 5:20.70. Wrage placed 4th in the 110m hurdles in a time of 17:22. Youel had a third place finish in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:01.00, also placing in the 110m hurdles was Jacob Feldhacker in a time of 1:11.87. Kubik place forth in the 800m run in a time of 2:20.82.

In the field events Alex Herink had a fifith place finish in the Shot Put with a throw of 39.9′ and a sixth place finish in the discus with a throw of 109’7″. Matt Popelka had a fifth place finish in the discus with a throw of 110’5″.

As a team the Redhawks placed second overall with 84 points.

Coach Skopec said, “This was a very solid performance on a cold windy night. There was lots of improved performances compared to the first meet.”
