Redhawk makes it to state

COGGON — North Tama junior Rachael Murty qualified for the state cross country meet by finishing ninth at the Class 1A District 7 invite on Thursday, Oct. 23, at North Linn High School.

Murty clocked in at 21 minutes, 18.8 seconds to finish comfortably inside the top 10 as North Linn’s Peyton McMahon gained the final individual qualifying spot in 10th with a time of 21:52.2.

Murty’s Redhawks nearly advanced as a team, finishing in third place with 83 points. Hudson (31) and Lynnville-Sully (59) claimed the two teams berths to state.

Aniston Cooper and Shawna Cibula finished 17-18 for North Tama with respective times of 22:36.0 and 22:50.1. Gabby Seda scored 22nd in 22:58.5 and Isla Breakenridge rounded out the scoring times in 26th (23:12.9).

North Tama’s trio of boys runners were led by Kayler Morris in 68th place with a time of 21:25.7. Max Monat was 70th in 21:29.4, and Cayd Cooper came in 78th in 22:04.3.

Columbus Junction (38) and Lynnville-Sully (63) secured the team berths.

The 2025 Iowa High School Cross Country Championships are set for Friday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 1, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. The Class 1A girls race will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the 1A awards ceremony taking place later that afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
