Spence state-bound!

OELWEIN — Union senior Sawyer Spence is headed to state for the second year running after finishing fourth at the Class 2A District 2 state-qualifier meet held in Oelwein on Wednesday, Oct. 22. He clocked in at 16 minutes, 46.6 seconds to earn a spot in Fort Dodge.
Last season, Spence qualified individually for state for the first time; he finished 40th during the 2024 state championships with a time of 17:16.8.
The Union boys team was eighth out of 11 scoring teams on Wednesday at districts, totaling 219 points. Tristan Keister (46th, 19:14.4), Phineas Beermann (51st, 19:29.7), Ian Grimm (69th, 21:52.5) and Anderson Karr (71st, 22:15.3) rounded out the Knights’ scoring efforts.
The 2025 Iowa High School Cross Country Championships are set for this Friday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 1, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge. The Class 2A boys race will take place on Friday at 11:15 a.m.
