Mehlert earns 100th career win, Cliff Keen title at Independence

INDEPENDENCE – Union junior wrestler Coy Mehlert, a two-time state medalist, secured not only a bracket title on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, but also his 100th career win while on the mats during the Cliff Keen Independence Invitational. Mehlert, ranked No. 2 by IAWrestle as of press time, is pictured celebrating the milestone accomplishment. Wrestling at 120 pounds this season (up from 106), Mehlert (6-0) defeated Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s Simon Bettis, ranked No. 3 by IAWrestle, by decision 5-4 to capture the Cliff Keen championship. Overall, the Knights placed 21st out of 33 teams with 133 points. Union’s Stratton Luke (5-2), ranked No. 10, placed fourth at 126 pounds.
