Kern Reunion

The 43rd annual Kern reunion was held Sunday, June 28, at Amity Presbyterian church. A meal was shared at 12:30 p.m.

54 members were present, representing the towns of Buckingham, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Indianola, Le Grand, Marion, Melbourne, Toledo, Traer, Vinton; traveling the farthest were D.J. and Kathleen Frana and children, Elizabeth and Joshua, from Clinton.

Abbey Anderson, six month old daughter of Bret and Rachel Anderson, was the youngesst member present with Connie Miller being the oldest member present.

Those noted serving our country in the military: Alex Cufr, Air Force – Dulles AFB, Las Vegas and John Barfels, Reserves – National Guard.

The births reported were: Marley Marie Beenken, born Sept. 14, 2008. Daughter of Craig and Molly Beenken, granddaughter of Jim and Jeanne Beenken, great-granddaughter of Helen and the late Marvin Kern. Abby Elisabeth Marie Anderson, born Dec. 1, 2008. Daughter of Bret and Rachel Anderson, granddaughter of Bill and Penny Anderson, great-granddaughter of Helen and the late Marvin Kern. Andrew James Beenken, born Dec. 26, 2008. Son of Marc and Angie Beenken, grandson of Jim and Jeanne Beenken, great-grandson of Helen and the late Marvin Kern. Avery Anna McIntosh, great-granddaughter of Willis and Connie Miller.

Deaths reported: Kenneth C. Kern, age 85, Nov. 22, 2008 and Donald L. Miller, age 62, May 8, 2009.

Marriages reported: Caleb Hamer and Danielle Bicket, April 4, 2009, son of Ted and Linda Hamer, grandson of Helen and the late Marvin Kern.

Special Anniversaries: Jim and Jeanne Beenken, 40 years, Dec. 28, 2008 and Michael and Paula Cufr, 35 years, March 2, 2009.

The 2010 Kern reunion will be held on the fourth Sunday of June at Amity Presbyterian Church. Bob and Deb Kern and family will host the event. Scott and Sharon Kern family hosts.
