Union falls to 4-4 after thrashing by New Hampton

The Union Knights dropped their fourth straight contest after starting the season 4-0 with a 38-3 defeat at the hands of New Hampton in their final regular season home game on Friday night.

An early field goal by kicker Eskild Erickson resulted in the only points of the evening for Union, which was outmatched by the highly-ranked Chickasaws.

Quarterback Jay Scheel threw three interceptions – two of which were returned for touchdowns in the first half – and finished the day 10-of-22 with just 84 yards passing.

Noah Garwood and Jacob Holschlag combined for just 59 yards rushing out of the backfield, and Brady Driscol led the Knights with 21 yards receiving.

On the defensive side, Kolton Bader and Jace Hadachek tied for a team-high nine tackles.

Union will look to rebound in the regular season finale at Columbus Catholic in Waterloo this Friday night. Columbus is just 1-7 on the season, with its lone win coming two weeks ago against Central Springs. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
