UMS boys overcome halftime deficit, beat A-P

7th & 8th Boys Split With A-P

The Union Middle School 8th grade boys basketball team used a determined defensive effort in the second half of their game with Aplington-Parkersburg to overcome a four point halftime deficit and secure a 33 30 victory. The Knights did not attempt many shots in the defensive struggle but made the most of the one’s they took as the shot 49% from the field. They also outshot the Falcons from the freethrow line making 7 of 17 attempts. The Knights were led in scoring by Jace Glenn with 11 while Troy Hanus chipped in 9, Koby Alpers had 8, Carter Brehm netted 4, and Kyle Brustkern had 1 point. Glenn also led the team in rebounds with 7. He was followed by Brehm with 4, Nick Vogeler and Troy Hanus with 2 each, and Hunter Fleshner, Tate Hookham, and Koby Alpers with 1 each.

In the 7th grade game, the Knights could not get their shots to fall and the Falcons went home with a 16 42 victory. Union could only muster 24% shooting from the field and 17% from the freethrow line. Scoring for the Knights were Carter Asmussen with 6, Nolan Havran and Silver Schmitz with 4 each, and Bryce Parker with 2. Schmitz led the team in rebounding with 5. He was followed by Asmussen with 3, Dylan Felderman with 2, and Havran, Ben Behrens, Parker, and Anthony Kiler with 1 each. An extra half was also played with the B team coming out on the short end 5 12. Hunter Klima scored all 5 of the team’s points. Ryan Sedgwick led the team in rebounds with 5 while Klima had 3, C.J. Weltzin, Levi Gray, and Brenton Johnson had 2 each, and Austin Duke had 1.
