Traer Community Foundation announces annual grants

The Traer Community Foundation Board of Directors has announced the 2022 disbursements for a total of $97,662.00.

This is the 30th year of awarding grants. The total of Foundation grants, to the community, now totals $889,000.

These are the community betterment projects by non-profit organizations, that received funds this year:

-Christian Hands Across Traer: Safety net for families including food, clothes, heat, etc; $4000.00

-North Tama BASIC: Bible study supplies and food ; $3,000.00

-North Tama Community School: E-sports team supplies for grades 5-12; $2,500.00

-North Tama Community School: Visiting Author Program ($1,000.00)

-North Tama Community School: Kindergarten field trip to Hansen’s Dairy Farm; $225.00

-North Tama Community School: Elementary field trips to Gallegher Bluedorn; $1,104.00

-North Tama Community School: Academic Decathlon curriculum package, novels & fees; $1,000.00

-Pied Piper Preschool & Childcare, Inc.: New carpeting for the baby room and the toddler room; $4,500.00

-Traer Chamber of Commerce: Santa’s Workshop repair and maintenance; $2,500.00

-Traer Chamber of Commerce: Lighted holiday bows for the welcome signs; $2,500.00

-Traer Chamber of Commerce: Landscaping around three Wind Up in Traer welcome signs; $1,000.00

-Traer Chamber of Commerce: Speaker/sound system for downtown Main Street; $6,000.00

-Taylor Park Landscaping & Beautification Committee: Shrubs, flowers, plants, hardscape & other landscaping materials; $7,500.00

-Traer Golf & Country Club: Community fireworks display; $3,000.00

-Traer Ecumenical Vacation Bible School: T-shirts, Biblical keepsakes & craft supplies; $2,000.00

-Traer Historical Museum, Inc.: Solar shades for 4 windows; $2,000.00

-Traer Historical Museum, Inc.: Digitization of the Traer Star Clipper 1940-1975; $5,000.00

-Traer Mural Project Committee: Creation of two painted murals on building walls next to the library; $12,000.00

-Traer Sesquicentennial Committee: Place plaques on approximately 45 Traer buildings; $5,000.00

-Traer Sesquicentennial Committee: Signage and radio spots promoting the Sesquicentennial; $8,000.00

-Traer Sesquicentennial Committee: Kick-off party celebration in honor of the Sesquicentennial; $10,000.00

-Traer Sesquicentennial Committee: Alumni mailing for Sesquicentennial donations; $4,200.00

-Traer Sesquicentennial Committee: Sponsor a fashion show; $2,025.00

-Traer Theatre Inc.: Replace the popcorn popper; $1,158.00

-Traer Trees Forever: Posts and fertilizer for newly planted trees; $270.00

-Winding Stairs Festival: Caricature artist, hypnotist, magician, Barefoot Becky & carnival; $6,180.00

All gifts made to the Foundation qualify as charitable donations for the donor, and are recognized as such by the Internal Revenue Service. This gives donors the ability to donate to the community of Traer and avoid federal and state income, estate, and gift taxes on those contributions.

Gifts to the Foundation may be made in cash, appreciated securities, real estate, pledges, deferred gifts (such as life insurance proceeds or bequests through wills), or charitable remainder trusts.

The Foundation will receive and accept properties and gifts for the benefit of Traer and its citizens, and will distribute those gifts to community organizations such as those named above, either as the donor directs the funds to be spent, or as the Foundation’s Board of Directors select.

Board members include chairman, Don Stansbery representing the Kubik-Finch American Legion Post of Traer, vice-chairman, Michelle Podhajsky representing Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, Jon Panfil representing the Traer City Council, Val Bradley representing North Tama County Community School, and Tracey Hulme, representing the Traer Chamber of Commerce.

Bruce Reinders serves as secretary for the Foundation and the Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, Traer serves as Trustee.
