Hora-Machacek holds April meeting

Six members of the Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary met on Wednesday, April 5, at the Clutier post home at 1:30 p.m. President Veronica conducted the meeting and Chaplain Mary said prayer and the vacant chair. All recited the pledge of allegiance to the flag and the preamble to the constitution of the Auxiliary. Roll call was taken and March minutes were read and approved.

Treasurer Diane reported on our finances and tally from our bake sale. President Veronica appreciates the wonderful baked goods made and brought in and especially the patrons who attended the pancake breakfast and purchased the baked goods at the sale. Julia B. made a motion to pay half of the newspaper ad to the Legion and seconded by Pauline S. Motion carried. Helpers marking baked goods and placing them on tables were Collette W, Linda D, Mary S, and Bev C.

Collette had delivered 12 lap quilts to the VA clinic in Waterloo and 31 lap quilts to the VA Hospital in Iowa City. Discussed about getting a storage cabinet to store materials for our sewing days and other auxiliary items. Diane will be mailing a letter to members explaining our necessary increase in dues. Impact report due April 30 so Diane got a report of hours members in attendance spent sewing at home and also cutting and balling grocery bags.

Diane went over the unit’s by-laws and will change dues amount on #9. Will delete #8 and #12. Will review again in May. She reviewed the county meeting from March 28. There were 3 men and 9 women present and the next meeting is June 27 in Toledo. Foreign Food Fair moved to September at IVH. There will be no IVH gift shop in December. IVH bingo is April 19 at 2 p.m. and helpers are to be there at 1:30 p.m. Unit impact reports due to the County President by April 30.

Linda D. will make the 4 dozen cookies for Tama County Government Day on April 12. At this time only two schools are attending. A recovery card was signed and mailed to Collette W. Birthday card was signed and mailed to Marlus S. Happy Birthday was sung to Julia B. and Linda D. Julia B. won the door prize.

Our May meeting will be on the 2nd at 1:30 p.m. Mary S. said closing prayer and Pauline S. retired the colors. Hostess Veronica served egg salad sandwiches and cookies.
