American Legion Auxiliary holds meeting
The American Legion Auxiliary # 142 met Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 7 PM with 23 registered members and guests.
Verona Staker and Vi Barge advanced the colors. Champlain Jean Beenken gave the opening pray. President Karen Podhajsky followed with meeting according to the rules.
Larry Barge, Post Commander was present and answered. Beginning December 1st, the KFStar news pamphlet will be needing issues. About 290 are being sent out each month and 8 officers answered roll call.
Secretary read minutes of the October meeting and approved as read. Treasurer gave her report and it will be put on audit. Thank you read from the Boy Scouts.
Tama County Auxiliary officers present as guests were President Jolene Denbow, Secretary Marilyn Thoms, Treasurer Karen Podhajsky, absent was Chaplain Ona Fordice. President Jolene Denbow has a penny march collection for the emergency fund. She thanked our unit for recognizing the Auxiliary 89 birthday.
Ramona Snow education chairman reported she would be attending North Tama School Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 8 am with several members to spread patriotism to 373 students and teachers.
Irene Hanus National Legislation Chairman gave some information, such as contact legislators in issues that concern you. Also sent current coupons to overseas APO listings to different countries. After grand opening Nov. 15, 2008 the new Sullivan Bros. Iowa Veteran Museum in Waterloo, (next to the Grout Museum) is open daily for visitation.
Emergency fund Chairman Kathy Stammer passed out a sheet to everyone to fill out for their donation to the cause. Kathy Stammer received a certificate award for the report of the Juniors. As Kathy retired as Junior chairman, a gift was presented to her, “Thank You Kathy for the 25 years dedicated to the Juniors.” it read.
Audrey Lenaburg reported needing 30 dues yet for membership. As member Evelyn Harrison is 97 years old and a 75 year member, Happy Birthday was sung and a flower arrangement given to her.
Veterans Day dinner that was held Monday, Nov. 17 was enjoyed with the Legion by 93 present with a catered turkey dinner. Many gifts were brought for the Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.
“God bless America” was sung with Sharon Allen at the piano and Hostesses were Carolyn Adolphs and Kathy Stammer.
An Abundance of baked goods for the silence auction were brought. This was a fund raiser for different projects. A special notice of the bake sale was mailed out to different members.
Dates to Remember: Dec. 2 – 3; IVH gift wrap at 8 am, Dec. 6; Junior tea 2 pm Sunrise Hill Care Center, Dec. 13; Christmas cheer boxes delivered cookies and candy by 8 am at the Memorial Building and Dec. 18; bloodmobile drive 1-6 pm at the Memorial building.
