Elberon Auxiliary holds Nov. meeting

The Elberon American Legion Auxiliary met Thursday, Nov. 13, with eight members present. President Marne Chalupsky called the meeting to order. An opening prayer was given by Chaplain, Dorothy Hayek. Colors were in place.

The Pledge of Allegiance and the Auxiliary Preamble were recited. Our National Anthem was sung with Pat Sauer playing the piano. A moment of silence was given for POW/MIA’s and deceased. The Vacant Chair was read.

Officer roll was called and the October minutes were read by Secretary Lorraine Vileta. The Treasurer’s report was given by Wilma Parizek.

Old business: Veterans Day program in Van Horne was attended by Betty Prusha, Marne Chalupsky and Lorraine Vileta. Betty and Marne carried flags.Legionaires participating in the program were, Dick Prusha, Ervin Nekola,

Russel Kesl and Joe Burkle. Elmer Chalupsky also attended. A very entertaining program was enjoyed. Guest speaker was State Commander, Bruce Feuerbach.

The Legion Halloween costume party had 29 youngsters register. Judges were Marne Chalupsky, Norma Riha and Darlene Balvin.

The Auxiliary took part in the memorial services for Lillian Bazal.

New business included one pin fine. Correspondence was read from the family of Lillian Bazal.

A Memorial check was received from the CZBJ Hall in Clutier in memory of Wilma Jesina.

A list of junior girls from Elberon was received from the Benton Community School.

Cards of cheer were signed for Kenna Derby, Darlene Howe, Lorena Wauters, Susan Selk, Melvin Ledvina and Ray Sweet. A sympathy card was signed for Elaine Dostal.

The next Tama County joint meeting was held Nov. 25 in Traer. This meeting will include a memorial service for Auxiliary and Legion members.

Our unit will help with the Iowa Veterans Home gift wrap on Dec. 3. Meet at the Community Hall at 9:15 a.m.

We will donate to the Santa Claus fund in December. A donation was sent to David Spurrell who sends Christmas stockings to Iowa National Guard soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each stocking is filled with personal items.

Our charter was draped for Lillian Bazal a 34 year member.

Our next meeting will be Dec. 11, with a noon potluck. Legionaires and spouses are invited.

Closing prayer was read and meeting adjourned. Marne read “The Farmer”. We sang “America the Beautiful”. Lorraine Vileta won the door prize. Dorothy Hayek served lunch.
