Cross country runs in meet at Marshalltown

Not having a home meet is a tough thing for any sports team. But the North Tama cross country squad hasn’t let that slow them down. The group ran in their first meet of the season in South Hardin last week.

The girls finished with 171 points, competing against eight other schools with consistent performances across the board.

Abi Watson finished fourth in the meet, just off the pace at 13:51. The first place finisher was just 13 seconds ahead of Watson.

Jamie Huntley placed just outside the top 20 – at 21st, to be exact – with a time of 15:57. BrandiAnne Daub ran a 17:07 in the two mile course, good enough for 35th place.

The Redhawks also earned points from Jordyn TeBeest, who finished 51st with a, 18:19 run. Alexis Taylor came in 60th at 19:30, and Rachel Kopriva ran a 20:02, good enough for 63rd.

Robert Young was the only male athlete running the two mile course for the Redhawks, and he came in 56th with a time of 19:01.

The team was also in action against Marshalltown last Thursday, finishing 17th as a group with 471 points.

Watson once again led the way for the Redhawks, but finished in 38th place overall with a time of 16:51. Huntley ran a 19:40, finishing in 93rd place. Daub and TeBeest were 108th and 115th, respectively, running for times of 20:45 and 22:13.

Taylor was just behind them in 117th place with a 22:42, and Rachel Kopriva rounded out the pack with a 23:34, earning her 121st place.

The Redhawk cross country squad ran at a meet in South Tama on Tuesday, and headed to Lynnville-Sully on Thursday. Results from those meets will be included when they become available.
