Softball season recap

The North Tama softball team had a nice year, with several Redhawks making big contributions. Senior Samantha Zobel had a monster year, leading the team in many offensive categories including batting average, hits, home runs and RBI. Zobel batted a staggering .530 with five home runs and 26 RBI. She also tied for a team-high with six doubles and led the team with 35 hits overall.

Madison Howard continued to progress at the plate as well as on the mound. The sophomore emerged as the Redhawks’ number one starter and ended the season with a 5-7 record and a 4.47 ERA. Howard also struck out 96 batters in 2014. On the offensive side, Howard batted .516 and also had two home runs and 19 RBI.

The tandem of juniors Anna Kvidera and Jessi Jacobs was also a boost for North Tama offensively, as the duo hit .396 and .340, respectively. Kvidera also led the team with 14 stolen bases and was not thrown out on any of her attempts. Jacobs was also a perfect 11-for-11 on stolen bases.

Seniors Whitney Pokorny, Courtney Stuart and Jayde Vogeler will most certainly be missed in 2015 after batting .298, .291 and .273 during their final campaign for North Tama. Bigger roles will certainly be up for grabs as freshman Carlie Feisel (.308 and eight RBI), sophomore Kodi Hillman (.286 and seven RBI) and junior Brieanna Ewoldt (.220 with six stolen bases) head into next season.

Incoming freshman Tessa Dvorak also looks to be a player to watch in 2015 after emerging as a solid second starter. Dvorak finished the year with a 4-3 record and 22 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings.
