Redhawk boys split at AGWSR, girls grapplers take all

ACKLEY — North Tama boys wrestling defeated Columbus Catholic but lost to triangular hosts at AGWSR High School last Thursday, Dec. 7.

The Redhawks won 42-24 against the Sailors; the Cougars defeated North Tama, 42-27.

All three schools had small lineups on Thursday; North Tama and Columbus each received three forfeits in their dual, with the Redhawks going 4-1 in head-to-head matches. Gavin Rausch (157), Drake Podhajsky (165), Drayke Dvorak (113) and Kane Kucera (138) won by fall and Maxon Monat, Stone Tarrancy and Kolt Knaack received wins by forfeit.

North Tama had five forfeits against AGWSR but won four of the six head-to-head matches. Kucera, Knaack and Podhajsky had pinfall wins and Drayke Dvorak scored a 12-10 win in sudden victory with Brady Abbas.

In girls action, North Tama defeated AGWSR 36-12. Grace Dvorak (110) and Briar Blake (170) won head-to-head bouts and Olivia Youngblood, Ava Monat, Faith Dvorak and Addison Hochstetler received forfeits.

On Dec. 9, the boys placed sixth at the fiercely competitive Oelwein Invitational out of nine scoring teams with Kolt Knaack securing the 144 pounds tournament title by going 4-0 with pinfall wins over Waverly-Shell Rock, Oelwein, and Tipton before taking the championship match by major decision (9-0) over Jesup’s Dawson Bell.

Also at Oelwein, Maxon Monat took second place at 106 pounds, Drayke Dvorak took third at 113 pounds, Drake Podhajsky took third at 157 pounds, and both Brayton Stickles and Gavin Rausch took fourth place at 132 pounds and 150 pounds, respectively.

The Redhawk boys and girls teams were next set to wrestle on Tuesday of this week at BGM, followed by a quad for the boys at home on Thursday, Dec. 14 with BCLUW/South Hardin Storm, Jesup, and Sigourney. The girls were then scheduled to travel to Fort Dodge on Friday for an invitational featuring at least 16 teams.
