Redhawk wrestlers top podiums at home tournament

TRAER – Redhawk wrestlers secured a slew of championship titles at their home tournament last Saturday in Traer. First place finishes were earned by Drayke Dvorak, Case Monat, and Kolt Knaack during the boys invitational, while Grace Dvorak, Addy Hochstetler, and Briar Blake went undefeated during the girls scramble for top honors.

Against a dozen teams, the Redhawk boys took fifth place.

Drayke Dvorak won the 106 pounds championship by defeating West Marshall’s James Decker by decision.

Case Monat won the 126 pounds championship by defeating Mid-Prairie’s Colin O’Rourke by pinfall.

Kolt Knaack – who remains undefeated this season – won the 144 pounds championship by defeating West Marshall’s Kinnick Geers by pinfall.

Max Monat earned runner-up in the 113 pounds bracket by going 4-1 including four pins and a final round loss to West Marshall’s Jon Gonzalez.

Also for the Redhawks, Gavin Rausch earned fourth place in the 150 pounds bracket.

The girls grappled their way to several successful finishes on Saturday as well including Grace Dvorak (110-115) who went 3-0, Addy Hochstetler (130-140) who went 5-0, and Briar Blake (155-190) who went 4-0 – all essentially winning a tournament title.

Ava Monat – wrestling 120-130 – also notched a stellar set of finishes by going 3-1 on the day.

This was the final regular season appearance for the Redhawk girls squad with the road to state beginning this Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m. at four different super regionals held across the state.

North Tama’s squad is assigned to Region 3 which is competing in Des Moines at HyVee Hall. Other teams assigned to Region 3 include: Albia, Ames, Ankeny, Boone, Carlisle, Chariton, Dallas Center-Grimes, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, English Valleys, Fairfield, Iowa City, Iowa Valley, Johnston, Moravia, Nevada, Newton, North Mahaska, Ottumwa, Pekin, Pella, Perry, Pleasantville, Sigourney Keota, and Winterset.
