Traer Sesquicentennial to feature pictorial postmark
TRAER – As a community service, the United States Postal Service offers pictorial postmarks to commemorate local events celebrated in communities throughout the nation. And it’s coming to Traer during Winding Stairs Festival to commemorate the town’s 150th Anniversary.
Stop by the Sesquicentennial Committee’s merchandise tents – located at the corner of Walnut and Second streets – on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. to obtain the special souvenir postmark in person at the temporary Post Office station.
At the tent, the Postal Service will provide hand-back service – a customer personally presents an addressed or unaddressed envelope, postal card, or other item with sufficient First-Class Mail postage and the postal clerk applies your pictorial postmark.
Some items that can be stamped with the pictorial postmark include envelopes, postcards, sheets of paper, picture posters, currency, backs of envelopes, over foreign postage stamps, etc. The item must have a First-Class Mail postage stamp to qualify for the pictorial postmark. The postal clerk will be selling stamps; Sesquicentennial commemorative envelopes will be provided at the tent.
Mail your specially marked pictorial postmark envelopes, postcards, etc., to friends and family to commemorate Traer’s 150th Sesquicentennial year!
