North Tama had some memorable moments in the run to the Class 1A District 11 final. Saturday night’s season-ending loss to BGM is one they’d like to forget.

The Redhawks (26-11) failed to generate much offense and fell 8-2 to the Bears behind a strong pitching performance from BGM’s Zac Freese.

North Tama’s two runs came in the sixth inning on a pair of RBI singles by Brandon Kaufman and Huston Danker, but the BGM lead-which was already 6-2-would only get bigger.

Senior pitcher Jacob Wrage (5-5) was on the mound into the sixth inning but struggled with control issues all night. He allowed four earned runs but did strike out nine in the contest.

The loss ends the season just short of a second consecutive trip to the state tournament for North Tama, which will lose five seniors. Wrage, along with Brent Billerbeck, Dalton Hulme, Clayton Blocker and Joe Kvidera all graduated this spring.

Wrage hit .439 on the year and led the team with 40 RBI while also swiping 27 bases. Hulme batted .363 with a homer and 32 RBI, while Billerbeck batted .337 and stole 31 bases in 2013. Blocker had 20 RBI on the year and Kvidera drove in 12 runs.

The Redhawks will sorely miss the leadership of these five players.
