The North Tama girls basketball team staged a late comeback, but ultimately fell short in their quest to advance in Class 2A Region 2 play. Despite facing a 10-point deficit at the half, the Redhawks rallied in the fourth quarter to cut the margin to just four points with under four minutes remaining.

But a late surge pushed South Hardin over the top, ending North Tama’s season by a score of 63-55. A more complete recap will be included in next week’s issue.

Last Saturday, behind a career-high 16 points from Anna Kvidera, the Redhawks ran past G-R for the second time this month with a 63-46 triumph in the opening round of play.

Including Kvidera, four players scored in double figures for the Redhawks as they ran past Gladbrook-Reinbeck early and refused to let up. Despite trailing 16-13 after the first quarter, North Tama tallied a 23-14 advantage in the second period to pull ahead by six at the break.

Sam Zobel finished with 14 points, Tiffany Singkhek added 13 points and Josie Youel had 12 for North Tama, which had a five-game winning streak snapped by South Hardin (16-5) the previous Monday.

Kvidera tallied nine rebounds, five assists and two steals as well. Youel snared eight rebounds and Madison Howard added five boards and three steals.

Amber Berendes led Gladbrook-Reinbeck (8-13) with 16 points, and Ellie Stoakes added 11 more. Hanna Christopher chipped in nine points.
