Doug Zmolek, son of Eugene and Ellen Zmolek (formerly of Traer), now living in Rochester, MN and grandson of Helen Zmolek, Traer, was inducted into the Rochester Quarterbacks Club Hall of Fame on April 21, 2014. Doug is one of the most decorated hockey players in Rochester, MN history. He was a key player in his high school’s advancement to two state tournament appearances. He was selected No. 7 overall in the 1989 National Hockey League draft by the Minnesota North Stars. After high school, he went on to play at the University of Minnesota from 1989-1992. Doug then went on to play in the NHL – the North Stars moved to Texas and became the Dallas Stars. Doug was a defenseman with the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and the Chicago Blackhawks during his eight-year NHL career. He played 467 games, scoring 11 goals and 53 assists. He lives in Rochester serving as head of hockey operations with the Rochester Youth Hockey Association, in addition to coaching youth hockey and football. Doug and his wife, Jenny, have four children: Riese, Will, Ben, and Ella.
