North Tama softball wins slugfest with Baxter

BAXTER — North Tama softball powered past Baxter in the late innings of a 15-10 victory over the Bolts in Baxter on Wednesday, May 24.

Trailing 9-5 after the fourth inning, the Redhawks scored four runs in the fifth and added six in the seventh to take the lead for good.

Kinsley Even was 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and two runs batted in. Gabby Velasco added a 3-for-4 effort at the dish with an RBI. Gabriella Seda, Sydnee Bliss, Faith Dvorak and Adi Fuller all had two RBI each.

Bliss was credited with the pitching victory, throwing four and two-third innings with two earned runs on six hits, six walks and six strikeouts.

This is the Redhawks first win out of the gates this season under new head coach Madonna Merchant. North Tama lost their season opener, 14-0, to powerhouse Collins-Maxwell on May 22.

The Redhawks (1-1) host GMG (1-1) tonight.
